Fulfilled Prophecy: An Introduction
The best way to learn how to understand unfulfilled prophecy is to look at fulfilled prophecy.
Reading thought the New Testament one finds the statement, “ and this or that happened to fulfill the prophecy”, and then a reference is sighted.
As we will look through these one by one we will be adding to this post; so scan through periodically to find new stuff. So as the song says…. “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start”.
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” Gen 3:15
This is one of our more uncontested fulfilled prophecies but let’s just list out some of the highlights here:
He [Messiah/ Christ] was born in human form – from the seed of a woman
Satan’s arranging the Crucifixion – bruising of heel
Resurrection – bruising of Satan’s head
Let see …. Did Satan misunderstand this prophecy? … Was he interpreting it literally?
Anyway… can you see the logic here? Satan isn’t a real snake; he is just a “snake in the grass” like our colloquialism. And bruising of the heel? …. I think the crucifixion was a little more heinous than bruising or a snake bite. And while the resurrection crushed Satan power; he is still alive and well working in the world until the return of Messiah when Satan will be looked up in the pit.
